South Kitsap Homeschool Sports Club

About Us

Kitsap Homeschool Sports Club began as Homeschool Soccer Club in the backyard of Elena Evert around 1993. Her goal was to provide training in soccer without the pressure so often generated by an organized club. She started with 10-15 children and each year it became larger. In 1998 it had grown to 100 children and Elena could no longer run it by herself.

A committee was formed and soon after Elena moved to Tacoma. We incorporated as a non-profit club known as the Home School Soccer Club. The original committee was as follows: Chairman, Marcia Hisel, Secretary Debbie Holmes, Registrar Lucy Craig, Treasurer Jeanne Easley and Field Maintenance Person Val Coots. Debra Pischue and Carla Duffy also assisted us.

Our club was founded on much faith and the knowledge that it was greatly needed by home schoolers. When we began the season we had one coach for sure, two or three possibilities and many seniors who were willing to help us so that they could play. We spent many, many hours organizing, agonizing, and praying. Opening day, God provided us with volunteers in abundance and the season was off to a good start.

Tim Coyle who had come thinking only of assisting his daughter's team filled our most needed position of Head Coach. Tim also expanded our club when he decided to organize a basketball league the first year. We were all tired and had no desire to get involved in basketball, but we told him we would support him and help where needed.

When the season ended, we realized the massive duplication of effort if we remained two clubs. Because of the great need our kids had for organized sports, we decided to expand and become a sports club. So in the spring of 1999, we changed our name from Homeschool Soccer Club to South Kitsap Homeschool Sports Club (SKHSC) and have continued to faithfully serve our community.

Since 1999 SKHSC positions have been changed several times. In 2026, we changed the organization to Kitsap Homeschool Sports Club and revitalized the organization to reflect the increasing growth in our community. We are excited for what God will continue to do through this ministry in the years to come.
